5 Top Tips for Handling Pest Control

If you’re after a few handy tips on pest control, you’re in the right place. Let’s dive in!

1. Block Pests from Entering the Home

The best possible way to stop pests from getting into your home is to make it as difficult as possible for them. Check all your windows and doors for gaps and holes. If you find any, make repairs as quickly as possible.

2. Keep Things Clean

This may sound patronizing, but bear with us.

From time to time, we all leave dirty dishes piled in the sink. Or, we forget to take out the trash. Or, perhaps we’re feeling tired, so we didn’t clear away the crumbs on the kitchen counter.

Can you relate? Let’s be frank; we’re all guilty of letting things slide from time to time.

However, all the above scenarios create a haven for ants and other creepy crawlies. So, you’ll want to do your utmost to keep your home crumb-free. In light of this, we suggest being diligent when it comes to wiping down surfaces, sweeping and mopping your floors, taking the trash out regularly, and putting food back in the fridge.
The same is true if you keep fruits and vegetables on your kitchen counter. Don’t let them get overly ripe. Not only will they start to smell, but they’ll also attract a ton of fruit flies- gross!
You’ll also want to keep all your carpets and rugs vacuumed and clean at all times. After you’ve finished vacuuming, always throw away the dust immediately. This helps to get rid of any ticks and fleas that have already set up camp in your home.

3. Don’t Leave Water Standing Around

Stagnant water attracts pesky mosquitoes. Period.
So, if you have any pools of water standing around your home and garden, get rid of them.
Here are everyday things to look out for:

  • Puddles of rainwater
  • Leaks near your AC unit
  • Garden furniture
  • Bird baths

You get the idea!
If you see them, drain them. It is as simple as that.

4. Store Firewood with Care

Termites are the worst. So, you’ll want them away from your home. As you already know, termites are found in wood. So, if you keep and use firewood, store it as far away from your home as possible.

Five feet should be the absolute minimum amount of space you leave between your property and your firewood. The further, the better.

5. Use Pest Control Solution

There are plenty of mixtures and solutions on the market that can help you handle your pest control. However, some of them are better than others. As such, you’ll want to look out for ones that are neurotoxin-free. Generally speaking, these tend to be safe to use around kids, pets, and aquatic life. More often than not, they’re usually a blend of natural oils and soaps with the capability of killing most pests that come into contact with them.
These kinds of solutions usually destroy all sorts of pests:

  • Roaches
  • Ticks
  • Aphids
  • Mosquitos
  • Eggs

You name it, a high-quality pest exterminating solution should handle it for you.
