Needham Golf Club, established in 1923, serves individuals and families in the Needham, Massachusetts, area with a professionally designed, impeccably maintained course. The course is certified through the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses, which helps golf courses protect the environment as well as preserve the natural heritage of the game of golf
“Being certified means that our golf club is always looking for environmentally friendly ways to manage our golf course,” said Tim Hood, Needham Golf Club superintendent who has more than three decades of experience in the golf course maintenance industry. “Although we have used various types of chemical pesticides in the past, the club is always looking for ways to reduce that usage. Recently, we acquired three goats to assist in managing underbrush overgrowth. Now, EcoMIGHTis an excellent addition to help us meet our goals.”
The Audubon certification program began in 1991 as a cooperative effort with the United States Golf Association. Today, more than 2,300 golf courses are members. The program helps member golf clubs work to improve environmental planning, wildlife habitat management, chemical use reduction and safety, water conservation, water quality management, and outreach and education.
When Hood learned about EcoMIGHT, he decided to give it a try. “We typically don’t use large amounts of total kill products,” Hood explained.
“But I was very impressed with the results that I achieved in the areas where I used the product. I noticed a systemic impact on woody plants.”
EcoMIGHT’s product is a post-emergent, non-selective, naturally organic herbicide that destroys weeds by going straight to the roots. Unlike contact herbicides that only kill the portions of the weeds they touch, EcoMIGHT works systemically. This means it obliterates the entire weed including the roots.
The EcoMIGHT product is a safer alternative to the widely used glyphosate-based herbicides. After a March 2015 report from the World Health Organization that stated that glyphosate is “probably carcinogenic to humans” was released, a great deal of concern arose over its widespread, global usage. Several countries have banned or severely limited its usage, and several U.S. municipalities have done the same. The number of lawsuits against a major glyphosate manufacturer increases daily and has exceeded 42,000. Additional health concerns are also being raised by medical professionals and researchers.
In contrast, EcoMIGHT products hold the rare U.S. EPA designation of “minimum risk exempt,” which means that all of its active and inactive ingredients are non-toxic and occur naturally in the environment. When used as directed, EcoMIGHT is safe for humans, animals, aquatic life, pollinators, groundwater, and soil health.
EcoMIGHT products are sold as a liquid concentrate, which you combine with water when you’re ready to use it. At six ounces per gallon, a single gallon of EcoMIGHT concentrate would make about 21 gallons of herbicide. The effective cost of EcoMIGHT Weed Killer is as low as $2.21 per gallon, excluding discounts.
Many golf courses like Needham Golf Club as well as dozens of municipalities, school districts, outdoor entertainment providers, landscapers, facilities managers, groundskeepers, and other companies and organizations are making the switch to EcoMIGHT’s safer yet extremely effective herbicide.
